Where to Go

The Maple Conference is presented in the Zoom conferencing platform. The conference doors open at 8:00 am EDT on Wed. Nov. 2. Once the conference has started, enter the conference using the link in the email you received from Zoom, from the calendar item included in that email, from the link on the Maplesoft conference site, or by clicking here. You will need to sign into the Zoom account you used to register for the conference.

When you join the event, you will find yourself in the Lobby. From there you can bookmark events, build an itinerary, join a session, chat with other participants, and speak to Maplesoft staff. Here some things to note:

  • Update your Zoom Events Profile to make it easier for other attendees to talk to you. You can do this ahead of time or when you arrive at the conference. The Profile page offers you the opportunity to provide a lot of information about yourself, but this is optional. No matter how much you fill in, only your basic information (e.g. name, title, institution, and profile picture) will be displayed publicly. See Contacting Other Attendees for more information on how profiles are used.
  • Use the Lobby Chat as an Information Desk where you can speak to Maplesoft staff. You can ask questions about the conference, request a meeting with your Maplesoft Account Manager, or ask about anything related to Maplesoft.
  • Check the Lobby Chat for important announcements throughout the conference.
  • Go to the Attendees tab to connect with other conference attendees. See Contacting Other Attendees for details.
  • Visit the Art Gallery to enjoy some mathematical art and vote for your favorites! You’ll find a link to the Art Gallery in the Lobby and the Lobby Chat, or once the conference has started, you can visit the Art Gallery from here.

Territorial Acknowledgement

Maplesoft’s headquarters is located in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. We acknowledge that Waterloo Region, including the three cities and four townships, is located on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe and Neutral People. We acknowledge the enduring presence of the Indigenous people with whom we share this land, their achievements and their contributions to our community. We offer this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples of Canada.

Anti-Harassment Policy

The Maple Conference is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Conference participants violating these rules may be expelled from the conference at the discretion of the conference organizers. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. You can report a violation of this policy to any Maplesoft staff or by emailing mapleconference@maplesoft.com.

Accessibility

If you have trouble hearing any of the speakers, you can turn on closed captioning by clicking on Show Captions at the bottom of the Zoom window. Captions are generated automatically, so quality will vary.

Contacting Other Attendees

You can use text or video to speak to others during the conference, if they are willing to talk to you. To speak to another attendee:

  1. Go to the Attendees tab and find the person you wish to talk to. This directory displays everyone logged into the event except for those who chose to make their profiles private.
  2. Hover over their profile card and then click on + icon (Connect). They will receive a connection request. If they accept the request, they will then be able added to your connections list.
  3. View your connections by going to My Profile, then My Connections. From there you can initiate a chat or video call with one or more of your connections.

Feeling social?

If you are interested in connecting with people you don’t already know, you can set your profile mode to “Feeling Social”, which will put a green circle around your profile picture to indicate your willingness to be contacted. You also have the option to use the built-in platform matchmaker, which will recommend profile cards of others who have also set their mode to “Feeling Social” and who appear to have similar interests based on their profiles. The more information you (and they) provide in your profiles, the better the match is likely to be. At the top of the chat panel, click on to request a match. You can then decide if you wish to initiate a chat with that person.

Call for Papers and Articles

After the conference, everyone who gives a presentation will be invited to submit related content to the Maple Transactions journal for consideration. Submissions on research results will undergo the standard journal peer-review process. For non-research topics, you have the option of submitting high quality articles of general interest to the community, which will be reviewed by the editors. Due date and submission criteria will be provided in the call for contributions, which will go out shortly after the conference. Accepted contributions in both categories will be published in a special Maple Conference 2022 issue of Maple Transactions.

Troubleshooting FAQ

How do I get back to the Lobby after my session has ended?

When you leave a session or the session ends, you will see a message telling you to return to the Lobby.

  • If you are using Zoom through a web browser, your session was launched as a separate tab. Closing the current tab will probably return you to the Lobby tab, but it if doesn't, look through your open tabs until you find the Lobby.
  • If you are using the Zoom client, the Lobby session will be in your tray at the bottom of your screen. Simply click on it to return.

Where is the Lobby Chat?

The Lobby Chat is on the right hand side of the Lobby, but if your window is too narrow, it disappears (we expect Zoom is working on this – it’s a very new platform!). To fix the problem, make your window wider.

The session shows "In Progress" but it’s not letting me in!

The Zoom rooms for most sessions are opened ahead of the scheduled start time so that the speakers can get in early and make sure everything is working. As an attendee, you will be put in the waiting room until the scheduled start time. Just wait, and you will be let into the session once the "doors open" for the audience.
