The Maple Conference is presented in the Zoom conferencing platform. The conference doors open at 8:50 am EDT on Thurs. Oct. 26, and the first session starts at 9:00 am. Once the doors have opened, enter the conference using the link in the email you received from Zoom, from the calendar item included in that email, from the link on the Maplesoft conference site, or by clicking here. If you registered for the conference via the Register with Zoom Account option, you will need to sign into the Zoom account you used.
When you join the event, you will find yourself in the Lobby. From there you can bookmark events, build an itinerary, join a session, chat with other participants, and speak to Maplesoft staff. Here some things to note:
Maplesoft’s headquarters is located in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. We acknowledge that Waterloo Region, including the three cities and four townships, is located on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe and Neutral People. We acknowledge the enduring presence of the Indigenous people with whom we share this land, their achievements and their contributions to our community. We offer this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples of Canada.
The Maple Conference is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Conference participants violating these rules may be expelled from the conference at the discretion of the conference organizers. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. You can report a violation of this policy to any Maplesoft staff or by emailing mapleconference@maplesoft.com.
If you have trouble hearing any of the speakers, you can turn on closed captioning by clicking on Show Captions at the bottom of the Zoom window. Captions are generated automatically, so quality will vary.
All conference sessions will be recorded, and Maplesoft will send an email to all conference registrants approximately 1-2 weeks after the conference ends with instructions on how to access the videos.
You can use text or video to speak to others during the conference, if they are willing to talk to you. To speak to another attendee:
If you are interested in connecting with people you don’t already know, you can set your profile mode to “Feeling Social”, which will put a green circle around your profile picture to indicate your willingness to be contacted. You also have the option to use the built-in platform matchmaker, which will recommend profile cards of others who have also set their mode to “Feeling Social” and who appear to have similar interests based on their profiles. The more information you (and they) provide in your profiles, the better the match is likely to be. At the top of the chat panel, click on to request a match. You can then decide if you wish to initiate a chat with that person.
After the conference, everyone who gives a presentation will be invited to submit related content to the Maple Transactions journal for consideration. Submissions on research results will undergo the standard journal peer-review process. For non-research topics, you have the option of submitting high quality articles of general interest to the community, which will be reviewed by the editors. Due date and submission criteria will be provided in the call for contributions, which will go out shortly after the conference. Accepted contributions in both categories will be published in a special Maple Conference 2023 issue of Maple Transactions.
How do I get back to the Lobby after my session has ended?
When you leave a session or the session ends, you will see a message telling you to return to the Lobby.
Where is the Lobby Chat?
The Lobby Chat is on the right hand side of the Lobby, but if your window is too narrow, it may disappear. To fix the problem, make your window wider.
The session shows "In Progress" but it’s not letting me in!
The Zoom rooms for most sessions are opened ahead of the scheduled start time so that the speakers can get in early and make sure everything is working. As an attendee, you will be put in the waiting room until the scheduled start time. Just wait, and you will be let into the session once the "doors open" for the audience.
