Creating a Group

Groups in the MapleSim CAD Toolbox are used for merging objects that should be treated as a single component by MapleSim. When you import your CAD model into MapleSim, each top-level group in the Tree View becomes a CAD subsystem.

To create a group:

1.

(Optional) Select some objects in the Tree View or CAD Workspace.  (See Selecting Objects.)

2.

From the toolbar, click Create Group ( ).

The Place selection in the new group check box indicates that some objects are selected in the workspace, and the group will be formed from those objects.  You can also form a group with nothing inside it, and then drag objects in the Tree View into the group afterwards.

3.

The group is given a generic name.  You can enter a different name for the group.

•

To move items in or out of a group, you can drag and drop in the Tree View.

Note: After importing a group into MapleSim, you cannot edit the objects that make up the group.

•

You can change the name or other properties of a group later. To rename a group, select it and use Ctrl + R as a shortcut to open the Properties dialog.  Type a new name in the name field.  For more about the properties dialog, see Setting the Properties for a Group.
