Percent Correlation
Main Concept
Two particles with 100% correlation can be thought of as defining an even function. When a value for one is measured at a particular point, the other will have the same value, which is like evaluating a function at a particular distance from the origin (positive and negative). Similarly, two particles with -100% correlation can be thought of as defining an odd function.
Explore the concept of correlation using this interactive example. Adjust the slider to set the desired percentage correlation. By clicking and dragging in the graph window below you can draw the graph of a function with the specified amount of correlation. Clear an existing graph by clicking on it.
What do you notice about complete correlation? What about no correlation?
