Main Concept

A polynomial $p\left(x\right)$ has a root, $a$, if $p\left(a\right)\=0$. Or equivalently, $x\=a$ is a zero or a solution to $p\left(x\right)\=0$. When graphing the polynomial, the point $\left(a\,p\left(a\right)\right)\=\left(a\,0\right)$, so roots of polynomials occur at the $x$-intercepts. For a polynomial of degree $k$, there can be at most $k$  roots.
