Vector Subtraction
Main Concept
Vectors quantities have both magnitude and direction.
Vectors can only be subtracted from other vectors.
Given two vectors a and b, their difference can be written as a − b.
Vector subtraction can be viewed as vector addition.
c = a − b
c = a + −b
By placing two vectors tip-to-tip the difference between the vectors can be found.
Always verify your resultant vector:
a − b + b = a
b − a+ a = b
Click and or drag on the graph to change the vectors.
