Single-phase Resistors
A resistor converts electrical power to heat. The voltage across and the current through a resistor (v and i, respectively) are related by the equation, v=i⁢R, where R is the resistance. A conductor with conductance G is equivalent to a resistor with resistance 1/G.

Potentiometer - adjustable resistor with tap

Variable Conductor - ideal linear electrical conductor with variable conductance
Variable Resistor - ideal linear electrical resistor with variable resistance
