Comparing Simulation Results from Different Models

The Stored Results palette lists all open models.  You can display simulation results from multiple models at once, and even create a plot window or simulation graph that includes probes or variables from different models.

To open another model from the Simulation Results tab:

Click the Open Model button ( ) beside the Stored Results palette.
This is equivalent to opening the model in the main MapleSim window.  The model is opened in MapleSim and is listed in the Stored Results palette.

 

When multiple models are open, the Stored Results palette lists all open models and their stored results.  An icon of a plot ( ) is used to indicate the current file.  You can click on a model name in the Stored Results palette to select a model.   The current model determines what is shown in the Variables palette, Plot Windows palette, and displayed plots.

To add a variable from one model to a simulation graph for another model:

Suppose you want to add a variable from model B to a simulation graph for model A.  Let's suppose you want to compare variable E from model A to the variable E from model B.

Start with both models open in MapleSim, with stored results.  In the Simulation Results tab, select model A in the Stored Results palette by clicking on the model name:

Create a plot window named Variable E Plot that consists of one plot: the plot of variable E.

In the Stored Results palette, expand the tree for model B so the simulation results are visible.  Right-click on a stored result and select Overlay on <ModelName>.



Model B's variable E is shown on the plot along with model A's variable E.  Check marks indicate the stored results currently shown on the simulation graphs, with the overlayed result sets indicated with a gray check mark ( ).

 

 

This is sufficient if you are only interested in displaying one plot that compares variable E of model A’s result A against the variable E stored in model B’s result B.  However, you may have a plot window with multiple plots, but want to only display an additional variable on one of the plots.  The method used above often displays too many curves on the plots; each check mark beside a stored result can potentially generate a curve for each variable in a plot.  In that case, use a persisted variable.

To persist a variable from one model to a plot for another model:

Let's suppose again you want to compare variable E from model A to the variable E from model B, but this time you want to look at an array of plots from model A.

1. 

Start with both models open in MapleSim, with stored results.  In the Simulation Results tab, select model A in the Stored Results palette by clicking on the model name:

View a plot window with multiple plots.

In the Stored Results palette, expand the tree for model B so the simulation results are visible.  Right-click on a stored result and select Overlay on <ModelName>.  Now all the plots in the plot window show data from model A's result A and model B's result B.

In the Plot Windows palette, expand the entry for the graph that displays variable E.  Right-click on variable E, and select Persist and then model B, result B, and variable E.  A pin icon ( ) indicates this variable will now persist.

In the Stored Results palette, right-click on model B, result B and select Remove overlay.
Observe that the persisted variable is still plotted when you clear the selection of model B, result B in the Stored Results palette.
