The Maple engine performs all mathematical calculations that are entered into Maple. When working with several Maple documents, you can run Maple in different modes: with a new engine for each document (default) or sharing one engine among all documents.

Select one of the following modes and click Apply to Session or Apply Globally:

Ask each time a new document is created - Prompts you to specify the math engine whenever you open a new document.

Share one engine among all documents - Variable assignments defined in one document apply to all open documents.

Create a new engine for each document - Variable assignments defined in one document work independently of those defined in other open documents.

Note: This setting does not apply to documents from the MapleCloud Content Exchange. When you open a document from the MapleCloud, it always runs its own engine.

When a file has a large rtable result (such as a matrix), you can scroll through the resulting output in your worksheet. When you save and reopen a worksheet with rtable data, only results up to the rtable save limit are saved in the file and are scrollable when reopened. An rtable with more entries than this limit (5000, by default) must be reexecuted (or reimported) before it can be explored. This limit is applied per rtable. You can set this limit to control what size rtable data is saved when a Maple worksheet is saved.

Enter a value for RTable output elements save limit.

Select Never, Always, or Only for small selections.

Click Apply to Session, Apply Globally, or Cancel.

Processing time increases when copying a large selection in a worksheet. Using the Enable RTF copy option, you can disable the copying of rich text formatting (RTF) when necessary for efficiency or enable it for all selections. The default is Only for small selections.

From the Enable RTF copy drop-down list, select Never, Always, or Only for small selections.

Click Apply to Session, Apply Globally, or Cancel.

Note: This is only available using Windows(R).

When incorporating plots into print documents, select High Quality from the Plot print quality drop-down list.

Optionally, for draft documents, select Screen Quality.

This feature allows you to override the default language setting on a computer.

System Default- starts Maple in the language based on the current locale setting of the computer. For example, if you are using an English system, Maple starts in English. If you are using a Japanese system, Maple starts in Japanese. If the language is not supported, the Language field displays System Default and the language used is English.

You must restart Maple for a change to this option to take effect.

This feature allows you to override the default language setting on a computer.

You can create and maintain a dictionary that works with the Spellcheck utility.

To specify your own dictionary, enter the path including filename in the desired location or click Browse and select a location and filename.

To use Maple words that are command and function names, select the check box Use Maple Words in spellchecker.

Click Apply to Session, Apply Globally, or Cancel.

Properties of the User Dictionary file:

It must be a text file, that is, have the file extension .txt.

It is a list of words, one word per line.

It is case sensitive. For example, integer and

Integer require individual entries in the dictionary file.

The user defined dictionary file does not require manual maintenance. You build your dictionary file by using the Add functionality of the Spellcheck. However, you can manually edit the file if an error is introduced.

You can control the display of sections before printing or exporting to PDF including whether collapsed sections are expanded.

To access these options every time you print, print preview or export to PDF, ensure Show section options before print or PDF is selected.

Automatically save all open worksheets and workbooks.

Select the Auto save check box.

Change the frequency for saving files by entering the number of minutes.

Click Apply to Session, Apply Globally, or Cancel.

Auto save saves a copy of the file. The filename is the worksheet's filename with _MAS appended to it. When the worksheet is manually saved, the _MAS file is deleted.

When you open a _MAS worksheet that has been automatically saved, the worksheet is read-only. Therefore, you must use Save As to save the _MAS worksheet as a Maple worksheet.

Auto save does not save the worksheet under the following conditions:

The worksheet has not been changed.

The worksheet was loaded using the HTTP protocol.

You can control whether auto save files are kept or deleted when Maple is shut down normally.

To retain the auto save files when Maple is shut down normally, select Keep Files. By default, this option is selected.

With Keep Files selected, Maple creates multiple copies of backup files.

To discard the auto save files when Maple is shut down normally, clear the Keep Files check box.
