You can open a worksheet in a tabbed pane or in a new window.

From the Open worksheets in drop-down list, select from New Tab or New Window, as necessary.

You can open a hyperlinked page in a new window, tabbed pane, or in the current window.

From the Open hyperlinks in drop-down list, select from New Tab, New Window, or Place of Current Worksheet, as necessary.

You can increase or decrease the display size of worksheet and document contents. By default, the zoom factor is set to 100%.

To change default zoom size, from the Default zoom drop-down list, select a zoom factor.

Document mode provides a blank sheet for solving problems immediately in standard math. No Maple commands are required and no input prompt regions are displayed.

Worksheet mode provides a worksheet with a Maple prompt. You can insert input regions with standard math (2-D math default) or Maple input, text regions, and Document Blocks.

From the Default format for new worksheets drop-down list, select Document or Worksheet.

By default, in 2-D math the underscore key (_) inserts an underscore symbol.  Prior to Maple 17, the underscore key moved your cursor to the subscript position.  You can obtain this behavior again by changing this option.

To set the underscore key to insert a subscript, from the Underscore Entry drop-down list, select Inserts non-atomic subscript.

Note: If you select the Inserts non-atomic subscript option, the normal shortcut key to create a literal subscript is not available.  However, you can still create a variable with a literal subscript using either of these methods:

Using the atomic variable entry in the Expression palette

Entering the variable, selecting it, and selecting the Format > Convert To > Atomic Variable menu option

You can select the worksheet that Maple will display as a start page. To use the default Start page, select Default home page. If you want to use a worksheet other than the default Start page, select Specified worksheet. To use a blank worksheet as the Start page, select New, blank. For more information on configuring the Start page, see Working with the Maple Start Page.

By default, Maple remembers some plot attributes that are applied using the plot context menu, plot menu, or drawing tools upon re-executing the plot command. This feature only applies to 2-D plots.

To disable this feature, clear the Remember plot attributes when re-executing check box.

Changes the size of the toolbar buttons.

Small icons are displayed by default.

To display large icons, select the Large toolbar icons check box.

To show popup tooltips when the cursor hovers over a toolbar icon, select the Tooltips check box.

To show popup menu tips when the cursor hovers over a menu or submenu item, select the Menu tips check box.

Note: Menu tips only appear when both the Menu Tips and Tooltips check boxes are selected.

To display target information when your mouse travels over a hyperlink in a help page or document, select the Hyperlink target tooltips check box.

By default, automatic command completion is enabled. Maple matches your entry with Maple packages, commands, and functions.

To disable this feature, clear the Automatic command completion check box.

By default, automatic argument completion is enabled. Maple matches your entry with arguments, such as appropriate options to the command.

To disable this feature, clear the Automatic option completion check box.

By default, short dictionary definitions are displayed as popups.

To disable this feature, clear the Mathematical Dictionary popups check box.

By default, you can insert new white space above your cursor by pressing Enter when at the left-most position in a document block (Home position).

To disable this feature, clear the Home + Enter inserts new 2-D Math check box.

By default, matching brackets and matching quotes are highlighted for your information as you enter commands. Bracket matching and quote matching are available for both Maple (1-D) and Math (2-D) executable input formats. The bracket matching feature applies to ( ), [ ], and { } brackets, but not < > brackets. The quote matching feature applies to single ' and double " quotes.

To disable this feature, clear the Bracket matching check box.

By default, a space character in 2-D math input means implicit multiplication.  For clarity, when this option is selected, Maple replaces the space by an explicit multiplication symbol in certain cases. For example, as you type (x + y) (t - v) in 2-D math, Maple inserts a multiplication symbol in place of the space character between the two terms in parentheses.

This option applies to 2-D Math input only.  

To allow the conversion in certain cases of a space to a multiplication symbol: 

Select the Convert space to explicit multiplication operator check box.

Select either Apply to Session or Apply Globally.

As you type, Maple automatically inserts a multiplication symbol($\cdot$) in certain cases. If you did not intend multiplication, (for instance, you intended function application), remove the $\cdot$.

To disable this option:

Clear the Convert space to explicit multiplication operator check box.

Select either Apply to Session or Apply Globally.

Maple does not insert a multiplication symbol in place of the space character.

By default, confirmation dialogs are displayed when certain actions are undertaken. For example, when you click the Restart button on the toolbar, a confirmation dialog warns you that Maple clears its internal memory and that you have the option of canceling this action. The following check boxes are associated with confirmation dialogs:

Restart Warning - dialog warns you that Maple clears its internal memory during a restart.

Close Multiple Tabs - dialog warns you that multiple tabs, that is, multiple worksheets are open when you are about to close the application. You have the option of saving the worksheets before closing the application.

Open Hyperlink Options - dialog allows you to select where a new worksheet will open: in place of current worksheet, in a new tab, in a new window.

Autoexecute Disabled - dialog warns you that the autoexecute feature is disabled.

RTF Copy Warning (Windows only) - dialog warns you that you are about to copy a large selection in a worksheet. As such, processing time will increase.

Maple T.A. Content Paste Warning - dialog warns you that the worksheet contains special sections when exporting for use with Maple T.A.

Read-Only Warning - dialog warns you that the file is read-only, and you will not be able to save any changes.

Software Renderer Warning -dialog warns you that Maple cannot find a suitable hardware renderer for your 3-D plot.

Upload Warning - dialog warns you that the current document will be uploaded to the MapleCloud Content Exchange.

Variable Name In RTable - dialog warns you that a variable name was found in the rtable and was converted to a string.  

If you do not require confirmation dialogs displayed during your Maple session, click Confirmation Dialogs. The Confirmation Dialog window opens. Clear the appropriate check boxes and click Apply Globally.
