Solving Inequalities Graphically

Main Concept

Inequalities can be represented graphically:

y>fx is the set of points above the graph of y=fx.

yfx is the set of points above or on the graph of y=fx.

y<fx is the set of points below the graph of y&equals;fx.

yfxis the set of points below or on the graph of y&equals;fx.

 

The combination of multiple such inequalities is represented as the intersection of the sets mentioned above.

 

Use the drop down lists to choose a linear equation, and choose whether to set it greater than, greater than or equal to, less than or less than or equal to 0. Use the checkboxes to choose which inequalities to use. The solution plotted on the right represents all points x&comma;y that satisfy all the inequalities you have chosen.
