If Rp=xp i+yp j+zp k is a position vector and Rp=Rp is its length,
show that R·dRdp = R dRdp.
Solution
R·dRdp = xyz·x′y′z′ = x x′+y y′+z z′
R dRdp
=x2+y2+z2 ddpx2+y2+z2
=x2+y2+z2 x x′+y y′+z z′x2+y2+z2
=x x′+y y′+z z′
Clearly, these two quantities are equal.
