Summary Variables
The Wind Drum component models a wind (rewind) drum with variable roll radius and inertia.
The Wind Drum component must be at the end of a web line.
Using the provided 1D rotational flange (flangec), the Wind Drum component can be equipped with a motor.
Consider the drum shown below:

Upstream tension
va
Upstream speed
τ
Motor torque (= zero if modeling an idler roller)
ω
Angular velocity (positive means wind)
Rc
Core radius
R⁡t
Instantaneous roll radius
dB
Bearing damping coefficient
th
Web thickness
W
Web width
The time-varying roll radius is given by the following differential equations:
dR⁡tdt={ω⁢th2⁢πUse stepwise=falseω⁢th2⁢δ__φ0<φ<δ__φ0otherwise
where φ is the rotation of the drum between 0 and 2⁢π. When the Use stepwise option is selected, the roll radius increases only over a portion of each turn defined by δφ.
Ta⁢R⁡t=τm−J⁡t⁢dωdt−dB⁢ω
va=R⁢ω
The roll inertia consists of the core inertia, Jc, and roll variable inertia, J⁡t:
J⁡t=Jc+π2⁢ρ⁢W⁢R⁡t4−Rc4
