The Selective Save Feature

The selective save feature lets you choose what changes to save in your model or library. Once enabled, the Selective Save window opens and shows you all the changes that have been made to your model or library since its last save. Check boxes next to the changes let you select which changes to save to disk.

Enabling or Disabling Selective Save

The selective save feature is disabled by default. You can enable or disable this feature at any time.

To enable or disable selective save:

1.

Click File in the main menu.

2.

Select or clear Selective Save.

A check mark ( ) next to Selective Save in the File menu indicates that the selective save feature is enabled.

Using Selective Save

When you save changes to a model or library the Selective Save window opens and shows you the changes that have been made to the model since the last save (see the following figure). In this window you can either save all the changes made or select only some of the changes.

To save your file with only selected changes:

1.

Click Save File ( ).

2.

Do the following in the Selective Save window:

a.

Clear any check boxes associated with changes you do not want to save.

b.

Click either Only Save Selected (if you cleared some of the changes) or Save All (if you selected all the changes).

Note: If the Selective Save window does not open, you are either saving the file for the first time or you do not have selective save enabled.

1.

If you cleared any of the changes in step 2a, do the following:

a.

From the File menu, select Close Document.

b.

Click No to not save the changes to your file.

Although this final step is not necessary, it is recommended because it guarantees that the next time you open your file it will contain only the changes you selected. See the following Important Note for details.

Important Note: If you do not save a change, the current state of your file (currently in memory) will no longer match the state of your model on disk. To revert your model to the version on disk, close the model without saving and then re-open it. For example, let's say you make some changes to your model which includes adding a probe. When you save the model, you clear the Probes have changed entry in the Selective Save window but accept all of the other changes. The probe will still be in your model after the selective save. You must now close the file without saving. The next time you open your model, the probe will no longer be in your model.

Notes:

•

The Selective Save window does not open for the initial save of your model or library. It opens for every save after the first save.

•

Select or clear the check box at the top of the Selective Save window to select or clear all changes at once.

•

If a selected change cannot be saved, an error dialog opens with information about what file could not be saved.

Causes for this error can be that you did not open the file for editing in your revision control system or that you do not have write permissions for the file you are editing.

•

(Version controlled models and libraries) If the .base_msim or .base_msimlib file is not opened for editing, any base changes (for example, simulation results and snapshots) are saved to a .current file in the same directory. This file contains the base changes from when you last closed your model or library. For more information on the .current file, see Opening a Version Controlled Model Library.

The information in the Selective Save window is similar to the information from the Compare Models tool (see Compare Models tool: Details for more information).
