The rose $r\=\cos \left(5 \mathrm{\θ}\right)$ is graphed in Figure 7.1.9(a); the rose $r\=\cos \left(\mathrm{\θ}\/5\right)$, in Figure 7.1.9(b). The rose $r\=\cos \left(5 \mathrm{\θ}\right)$ is drawn with $\mathrm{\θ}\in \left[0\,\mathrm{\π}\right]$; the rose $r\=\cos \left(\mathrm{\θ}\/5\right)$, with $\mathrm{\θ}\in \left[0\,5 \mathrm{\π}\right]$.

The rose in Figure 7.1.9(a) with its five "petals" meets expectations for a flower-like shape, but the rose in Figure 7.1.9(b) is certainly a surprise. Indeed, the rose $r\=\cos \left(\mathrm{\θ}\/3\right)$ is a translation of the limaçon $r\=1\/2\+\cos \left(\mathrm{\θ}\right)$.
