Files of various formats are added to Maple workbooks as attachments. Some of the most frequently used formats are: MW, WAV, PNG, BMP, CSV, XLS. For further details on supported formats, see the Formats page.

Adding a Single File to a Workbook

To add a file to your workbook:

1. 

Do one of the following:

• 

Right-click anywhere in the Navigator palette.

• 

Select the Insert menu.

2. 

From the menu options, select Attach a File.

3. 

In the Attach window, navigate to the file that you want to add to the workbook.

4. 

Select the file.

5. 

Click Open.

 

Alternatively:

1. 

Click on the file that you want to add to your workbook.

2. 

Drag the file on to the Navigator plane.

 

Note: Any images or videos embedded in the attached worksheet will be copied into the shared Images or Videos directory, respectively. These directories are directly accessible and editable through the Workbook Navigator.

Making a Copy of an Attachment

You can make a copy of any file attached to your workbook. The currently saved version of the attachment is used to create the copy, and it is automatically attached to the workbook. This is useful for storing archives of attachments.

To make a copy of an attachment:

1. 

Right-click on the attachment, and then select Make a Copy.

2. 

Enter a name.

3. 

Press Enter.

Adding a New Maple Document or Worksheet

To add a new, blank Maple worksheet or document:

1. 

Do one of the following:

• 

Right-click anywhere in the Navigator palette.

• 

Select the File menu.

2. 

From the context menu options, select New.

3. 

From the submenu select Document in Workbook or Worksheet in Workbook.

Attaching Content from Another Workbook

To attach content from another workbook:

1. 

Right-click anywhere in the Navigator palette.

2. 

From the Context menu options, select Attach a File.

3. 

In the Attach window, browse to find the workbook (.maple) file that contains the content that you want to attach to your current workbook.

4. 

Select the file.

5. 

Click Open.

6. 

In the Selection Dialog window, the entire contents of the selected workbook are displayed. At the bottom of the window, there are four buttons to choose from:

• 

To attach the entire workbook as an attachment, click Entire Workbook.

• 

To attach a file or folder, select the file or folder, then click Select.

• 

To cancel the selection operation, click Cancel.

• 

To browse for another file from your directory, click Choose Different File.

Opening an Attachment

Workbook attachments are opened in the software programs they were authored in. For example, a .doc attachment is opened in Microsoft Word. Attachments of the file types MW, MWS, or MAPLE are opened in Maple.

To open a workbook attachment:

1. 

In the Navigator palette, find the workbook attachment that you want to open.

2. 

Double-click on the attachment, or right-click on the attachment.

3. 

The attachment is opened in its native software program.

Attaching Multiple Files to a Workbook

You can select multiple standalone files from a directory at the same time and attach them to your workbook, or attach a selection of files from another workbook.

Attaching Multiple Files from a Directory

To attach multiple standalone files from a directory:

1. 

Right-click on the Workbook Navigator palette.

2. 

Select Attach a File.

3. 

Navigate to the directory that contains the files that you want to attach.

4. 

Press Ctrl and select the individual files you want to attach.

5. 

Click Open.

 

Attaching Files from Another Workbook

To attach multiple file attachments from another workbook:

1. 

Right-click on the Workbook Navigator palette.

2. 

Select Attach a File.

3. 

Select the workbook file that contains the files you want to attach.

4. 

Click Open.

5. 

Press Ctrl and select the individual files from the workbook.

6. 

Click Select.

Setting a Worksheet to Open Automatically

You can set one or more worksheets to open automatically when you open your workbook.

To set a worksheet to open automatically:

1. 

In the Navigator palette, right-click on the worksheet, and then select Open Automatically.

2. 

Save your workbook.

 

Note: By default, if no worksheet is set to open automatically, then the first worksheet in the Navigator palette opens automatically.

Sharing Attached Files

Workbook attachments can be shared among workbook documents and worksheets by simply copying the URI of the workbook file into the target field of the hyperlink properties window, or a shortcut component. You can also paste the copied URI inside a code edit region or startup code region and use the URI string inside existing Maple commands.

Attached images can also be used multiple times inside a workbook worksheet or document, as well as across multiple documents and worksheets. For information on inserting images, see inserting images.

Adding a New Folder to the Workbook Navigator

 

To add a new folder using the Workbook Navigator:

1. 

Right-click anywhere in the Workbook palette.

2. 

From the context menu options, select New.

3. 

From the submenu, select Folder in Workbook.

4. 

The new, untitled folder is created in the workbook and is displayed in the Workbook Navigator.

 

To add a new folder using the File menu options:

1. While in your workbook, select the File menu, then New.

2. From the submenu, select Folder in Workbook.

3. The new, untitled folder is created in the workbook and is displayed in the Workbook Navigator.
