The Möbius Assessment software from DigitalEd (formerly Maple T.A.) uses Maple's computation engine to assess student responses. Checking for equivalent results in the domain of mathematics is a hard problem that is best solved using a symbolic language such as Maple. Even simple problems, such as a student answering y+x when the expected answer is x+y, can be very difficult in a system that does not understand the mathematics behind the student's answer.
While Möbius Assessment has access to all of Maple's mathematical operations, it also has a selection of built-in commands that can be used in algorithms that do not access Maple's engine. This can be used in a broader range of questions. For convenience, these commands are now available in Maple.
For more information on Maple and DigitalEd integration, see Integration with DigitalEd Products: An Overview.
Each command in the MapleTA package can be accessed by using either the long form or the short form of the command name in the calling sequence.
The long form, MapleTA:-command, is always available. The short form can be used after loading the package.
The Builtin subpackage is a collection of commands that are natively supported by Maple T.A..
