Parallel and Perpendicular Planes

Main Concept

The equation of a plane in ℝ3 can be given as

A x + B y + C z = D

where A, B, C, D are parameters.

The normal vector to the plane with the above equation is the vector A, B, C.

Two planes π1 and π2 are perpendicular when their respective normals n1 and n2 are perpendicular:

n1  n2 =  0

Two planes π1 and π2 are parallel when their respective normals n1 and n2 are parallel:

n1×n2=0

Change the coefficients of the Cartesian equation of the planes to see how they change. Select the check box to see the normal vectors.
