InversePlot

plot an expression and its reflection through the line y=x

Calling Sequence

Parameters

Description

Examples

Calling Sequence

InversePlot(f(x), x, opts)

InversePlot(f(x), x = a..b, opts)

InversePlot(f(x), a..b, opts)

Parameters

f(x)

-

algebraic expression in variable 'x'

x

-

name; specify the independent variable

a, b

-

algebraic expressions; specify the plot range

opts

-

equation(s) of the form option=value where option is one of functionoptions, inverseoptions, lineoptions, showfunction, showinverse, showline, or Student plot options; specify options for the plot

Description

•

The InversePlot(f(x), x=a..b) command plots the expression and its inverse reflected through the line y=x.

•

If the independent variable can be uniquely determined from the expression, the parameter x need not be included in the calling sequence.

•

The default domain and range of the plot are found by taking the smallest interval which contains the interval a,b and a possibly restricted range of the expression f(x) on that interval. If a..b is not provided, the default interval −10,10 is used.  To control the horizontal and vertical ranges actually displayed in the plot, use the view option parameter.

•

The opts argument can contain any of the Student plot options or any of the following equations that set plot options.

functionoptions = list

A list of options for the plot of the expression fx.  By default, the expression is plotted as a solid line. For more information on plot options, see plot/options.

inverseoptions = list

A list of options for the plot of the inverse of the expression fx. By default, the inverse is plotted as a solid line. For more information on plot options, see plot/options.

lineoptions = list

A list of options for the plot of the line y=x. By default, this line is plotted as a dashed line. For more information on plot options, see plot/options.

showfunction = true or false

Whether the expression fx is plotted.  By default, the value is true.

showinverse = true or false

Whether the inverse of fx is plotted.  By default, the value is true.

showline = true or false

Whether the line y=x is plotted.  By default, the value is true.

caption = anything

A caption for the plot.

The default caption is constructed from the parameters and the command options. caption = "" disables the default caption. For more information about specifying a caption, see plot/typesetting.

title = anything

A title for the plot.

The default title is constructed from the parameters and the command options. title = "" disables the default title. For more information about specifying a title, see plot/typesetting.
