Calling Sequence

Description

Calling Sequence

showtime()

Description

•

The showtime function is used to maintain a history of results computed within a Maple session and to display the time and space used by Maple for the execution of each statement.

•

After loading in showtime, the command on initiates the history mechanism, and the command off terminates it. After entering the command on, you are prompted initially with the prompt O1 := and for successive statements by the prompts numbered O2 :=, O3 :=, and so on.

•

Any Maple statement entered is evaluated normally, its result returned followed by a line numbered  O1, O2, ..  with the time taken and the amount of memory used being displayed.  The result is assigned to the global variable O1, O2, ..  which may be referred to later by the user, thus providing a complete history mechanism.

•

By entering the command off Maple returns to normal mode using the standard prompt.

•

The showtime command is only supported in the Command-line interface, not the Standard Worksheet interface.

•

Caveats: showtime is an ordinary Maple function, programmed in Maple. As such it cannot trap interrupts.  Hence, if you interrupt a calculation you will be thrown back to the main Maple session. The values of O1, O2, .. are still available.
