Heating Rod – Multibody, Multi-Domain Physical Model in MapleSim – Maplesoft

Heating Rod

This application illustrates the use of MapleSim's thermal components for developing a model of a heated iron rod. The rod is heated by a heat source at the left end, while the right end is open to the atmosphere with forced heat convection.

Two thermal models of the rod have been created: the first model, Segmented block, represents the rod as a set of 20 segments connected in series, each of which has 1/20-th of the overall thermal mass, heat conductance, and heat convection.  The temperature of every fifth element is recorded and plotted.

The second model called Lumped block, has all the thermal properties lumped into a single thermal mass, single heat convection, and two equally divided heat conductances.
